I received my second postcard as a participate of the Post Crossing. This one is from the Netherlands.
This card broke my Finland streak. But my luck has quickly run out, as I requested another address and received another “send postcard” address to - Finland!
The score is now
Sent Cards: Finland 3, Anywhere Else 0

A Book Survey
Monday, July 23, 2007
I was reading another blog that contained a post listing a question and answer set concerning books that have made an impression on a person and thought I’d share my answers to the same set of questions.
I’ve seen other bloggers refer to something to the effect of “so and so ‘tagged me on a meme’” whereby they list the persons that read their blogs who they want to reply to the question set. Since I don’t have a clue as to who reads my blog, I’ll just post the Q&A set with my inputs and encourage those of you who read this blog (whomever you are) to post a comment with your answers.
Here goes - the Book Survey
1. A book that changed your life: The Fountainhead, Ayn Rand
2. A book read more than once: To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee
3. A book you’d want on a desert island: The Complete Works, William Shakespeare
4. A book that made you laugh: Life Is a Strange Place, Frank Turner Hollon
5. A book that made you cry: Me and Paul, Kenneth E. Worthington
6. A book you wish you’d written: A Prayer for Owen Meany, John Irving
7. A book you wish had never been written: The Stepford Wives, Ira Levin
8. A book you’re currently reading: A Brief History of the Anglo-Saxons, Geoffrey Hindley
9. A book you’ve been meaning to read: The Name of the Rose, Umberto Eco
DU notes and a rest day
Thursday, July 19, 2007
I went to the DU info session last night. I have some additional research to complete before making my application and beginning their program. I need to verify the Corporate Reimburshment Policy on the topic of annual allowance and contrast that with the cost of tuition and number of courses per year I might take. Then I should investigate another institution and compare it with the DU program in terms of cost, schedule, location, estimated time to complete and curriculum. Only then can I make a decision.
Today is my day off from exercise. I’ve selected the odd day of the week (Thursday) because of a work schedule committment. It works for me, so no complaints.

I swam a 2200 yd workout this morning in 50:08.
This is what I did.
Warm-up 500
5×100 (20 sec rest in-between)
5×75 (15 sec rest in-between)
5×50 (10 sec rest in-between)
5×25 (5 sec rest in-between)
5×50 (Swim, Kick, Fist, Kick, Swim)
Cool-down 200
I’m going down to the University of Denver tonight from 6-8 pm to sit in an information session about completing my BA degree. Yes I’m slow at doing this. No my career has not suffered because of this. The bottom line is I made a commitment to myself to do this, and I don’t care if I’m in my 50’s when I’m done, but I will finish it. I’m going down to DU because of a recent Corporate Policy change regarding accreditation which prohibits employees being reimbursed for attending some less reputable schools. The school I attended in 1999-2000 is an approved institution for their Engineering programs, but not for their Business programs.
Amanda got her braces off yesterday. Her teeth look great. I hope to get a photo up soon.
Swim, Bike, Run, Kids, and the Weather
Tuesday, July 17, 2007
I swam 2400 yards straight in 50:26 before work at the Kipling gym yesterday. After work Manda, Becca and I had a B.S. session in the kitchen while Tami and Nana went to Sam’s to fill prescriptions. Later, I hung out with Boomer while Tami participated in a conference call. Brit and Daner came over at the end of the evening to say hello.
I rode the stationary bike for 10.6 miles in 30 minutes, then slowly jogged 2.6 miles in 30 minutes on the treadmill at the Broadway gym this morning. The run segment wasn’t very fun; I seemed to be really hot – sweating like a pig actually from the bike – and I walked twice for a minute each time.
The weather is pretty oppressive this week. Temperatures are forecasted in the upper 90’s, and high pressure, so no clouds and very dry with humidity less than 20%. It will probably be 100+ today. Summer is my least favorite season, but it doesn’t really impact my life too much. I spend all day in my air conditioned office, and all evening in my air conditioned home. Driving home from work is the most uncomfortable I ever get, because I don’t have air conditioning in my truck.
Sunday, 7/15
Sunday, July 15, 2007
I went for a 10 mile bike ride on my road bike, then did a 3 mile run this morning. This was the first time I’ve ridden my bike this year, and it was the first time I’ve run outside since the broken foot injury. Total time, including the time to park the bike and switch my shorts was 1hr, 20min. That was 46 minutes for the bike ride and 31 minutes for the run. I was pretty pleased with my effort.
After a quick shower, I went to Bubba’s house for coffee at the Headstrong Club. Me, Bubba, Dave and Matt are the remaining members. Dave R. dropped because of his divorce from Amanda. I was out of the loop for a long time because of my devotion to running, and the fact that I really wasn’t contributing to the conversation. It was nice to meet up with the group again.
Spent the rest of the day lounging around.
Matt has a bachelor party (sort of)

Brit & Daner go to N.O.

Brittany and Danielle took a Greyhound bus from here to New Orleans and back - spending about two weeks on vacation. I took the them to the bus stop and picked them up upon their return. They sent me a few photos while they were gone. You should really ask them about their adventures. Both kept a journal and they are extraordinary. You Guys Rock!
