4 mile run

I ran a very hilly 4.05 mile course in Highlands Ranch this morning in 41:15. I felt pretty good the entire time. I may have pushed a little too hard on the last hill, as my HRM indicated that my peak HR was 208! I’m not too concerned about that, because my average HR for the duration was 155, which is about what I would expect for this course and this time.

Reasons for my 101 in 1001 #60 – 69

60. Rig my iPod to my car
I drive a 1997 Dodge Dakota 2-wheel drive, no power anything, no air-conditioning. The best thing about my truck, besides that it is a truck, is the stereo. I usually have my portable XM Radio plugged in, but I leave that at home in the summer so the family can listen while they are playing outside. I’d just as soon leave the XM system at the house, and have my iPod in the truck.

61. Rig my iPod to my Outdoor System
After saying the thing about the XM radio above, you might think I’m not sane. Well I don like my music, and I like options and variety. Having the iPod on the outdoor systems will give us the opportunity to have theme parties too.

62. Post the answers to these questions for 4 consecutive weeks.
What will I try to improve on next week?
What was I most proud of this week?
What was my biggest accomplishment this week?
What have I done to get closer to my life goals this week?
What was hard for me this week, and why?
What was my biggest waste of time this week?
What did I do this week that made me ashamed?

This may be a little too insightful, but I’ve going to give it a shot.

63. Try #62 a second time
I must be insane.

64. Play chess at least once a week for 3 months
I will probably do this in the winter. I’ll have to find a partner first.

65. See the Liberty Bell
This is one of the more unlikely entries. If I have to go to Valley Forge or Burlington, NJ, then I’ll definitely make the stop.

66. Read “The Name of the Rose” by Umberto Eco
I’d like to start this sooner rather than later. It is a novel of a murder mystery set in an Italian monastery in the year 1327. Go here for a more in depth description of the book.

67. Have flowers delivered to ______ for no reason (10)
Oh, they will all love this.

68. Hike a 3-day portion of the Colorado Trail
I fell in love with backpacking when I first moved to Colorado from Louisiana. One of my first friends, George Arnott, and I would spend weekends backpacking in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains west of Pueblo.

69. Ride my bike 100 miles in one day
Just another one of those test your fitness level objectives.

Swimming with 6 Weeks to go

I’m think about officially registering for a triathlon out in Parker. The date of the event is September 9th and it is a sprint variety tri - 500 yd swim, 13 mile bike, and 3 mile run. So … six weeks before the event and I think I can do it now if I had to. I would like to train pretty hard over the next four weeks, then taper for two and then do the race.

I did a 2500 yard workout this morning - 500 yd warm-up, 3×500 easy, moderate, fast w/15 seconds rest, then a 500 yard cool-down. I think I did 4 of the 5 500’s in 10:30 to 10:45. There wasn’t any difference between the warm-up, easy, moderate and cool-down. I did the fast 500 in about 9:15. My total time for the workout was 54:46.

Learning to “Hook ‘em down”

It’s a start.

Sunday Bike Rides

I got up a 5:30 and went for a 20 mile bike ride this morning. It was nice and cool out and I really enjoyed the 4 laps of my 5 mile circuit. I think I’ll get out of the neighborhood for my rides next weekend.

Later in the morning, after the Headstrong Club meeting, Boomer and Tami saddled up and we all went for a 10 mile ride on the Highline Canal trail. So 30 miles on the day for me.

Check out Boomer’s set up - sweet helmet, cool shades, a water bottle full of Gatorade, and his best bud, Buzz Lightyear.

Why is Tami hauling Boomer? Her choice really, and rigging the carriage to her bike allows her to go for rides with him while I’m away at work.

So tired that I just couldn’t

exercise.

So I not only rested on Thursday, but I took Friday and Saturday off too. I don’t like to miss more that a day of training, but that late night shift at work really wore me out. Friday was completely out of the question, and Saturday was more laziness than anything else.

Odd Work Hours Explained

In my post of July 25, I mentioned that I had to go back in to work at midnight, then work a full day on the 26th.

I was managing the movement of this from the plant to the airport - all 125 or so feet of it.

Run, Bike, Swim, Rest, Odd Work Hours, Days Off

I did a double workout yesterday, but not backc to back. Before work I ran 3.85 miles on a hilly course near the gym in Highlands Ranch. After work I did a 15 mile bike ride in my neighborhood. The first 5 miles of the ride were done at a leisurely pace (8.75 MPH) with Tami towing Boomer on her bike as company. I did an additional 10 miles on my own at 14.2 MPH.

I swam a 2500 yard interval workout this morning.

I looking forward to my rest day tomorrow as I am feeling a bit fatigued. This could aslo be for some poor dinner choices the past two nights. The rest day will be in terms of rest from exercise only as I have to be back in to work at midnight tonight, and then will work through the day as normal. I’ll really be tired Friday morning, but at least I have the day off from work.

2600

I swam 2600 consecutive yards this morning. Over the weekend I did a “brick” of a 10 mile bike ride and a 3 mile run Friday, took Saturday as a rest day because I was feeling a little fatigued, then did another brick of a 15 mile ride and a 4 mile run. Considering how I felt during the swim this morning, it was a good idea to take Saturday off.

Boomer has a “Big Boy Bed”

Because Becca desperately needed an larger bed (twin to full was the step up we made) Tami decided that Boomer was ready to move from his crib to a “Big boy’s bed.” So we bought Becca the larger box spring and mattress, then moved her old set into Boomer’s room.

I think he likes it and thinks he’s pretty cool.

He slept in it for the first time last night without incident. Tami got this photo of him sleeping before he woke up this morning.
